It was my last night in Switzerland. Therefore, it was time for the most traditional of Swiss meals – fondue at Café du Vieil Ouchy.
After a fabulous dinner at Café Grancy the previous night, I was looking forward to another delicious meal at another favorite Vaudoise restaurant. Situated on the shores of the Lake Geneva, Café du Vieil Ouchy has sweeping views of the mountains and Château d’Ouchy. Inside, the restaurant is exactly what a Swiss restaurant should be: warmly lit, with low ceilings and exposed beams. On the particularly balmy summer evening, I was excited to take advantage of sunset views in the open air.
Junior and I took the metro down from Flon and arrived at Ouchy-Olympique with no time to spare. The interior was dead, thanks to the gorgeous weather. We settled into our patio seats just as the clock reached 8pm. (Side note – we have been coming to Café Ouchy since my great family friends introduced us to their delicacies. The couple is so well known at Café Ouchy that they are always greeted with hugs and cheers! I like to think that if I keep coming back, I will eventually get the same treatment 😂)
Our favorite server strolled over and we ordered a simple bottle of white wine. It was young and fresh, like most Vaudois wines. For our main, naturally, we ordered fondue moitié-moitié.
While waiting for our bubbling pot of cheese, we enjoyed the stunning sunset over the lake. It truly brought the purple mountains ideal to life! We chatted about all the French that I had learned over the last several months, and agreed to not discuss the goodbye that was coming tomorrow. Denial is the best policy!?
Finally the molten cheese arrived, and, as usual, it was delicious. This is my favorite fondue in all of Switzerland!
Stuffed, the sun had finally set. We saved room for dessert: a classic berry and double crème meringue. Yum!
It was perfect dinner to celebrate my last night in Switzerland. Until next time, Suisse!
